Here are so tips to keep your ps3 running for a long time my brothers ps 3 lasted for 8 years.
TIP 1-
Keep your PS3 lying flat (keep components factory together, not homemade together)
TIP 2-
Give your PS3 plenty of space to breath
TIP 3-
Make sure your power cable is oriented correctly (for slim owners, white writing on the power cable goes up)
TIP 4-
Give your PS3 AT LEAST an hour before restarting after it overheated (preferably 4 hours, but)
TIP 5-
Take your PS3 and vaccuum the back and side vents at least once a month
TIP 6-
Get a faster hard drive (improves loading times, just so no freezes looking for data)
TIP 7-
Use your PS3 in a room above 40* and below 90* (This is a good range for me, not too hot, not too cold)
TIP 8-
JUST IN CASE your PS3 malfunctions, YLoDs, or dies, keep your receipt handy (you'll never know)

Great but also if your hardrive goes corrupt you have to put your ps3 back to factory seetings but remember first back up your saved data to a flash drive or somehting else

Just something I learned the other day, PS3 wouldn't start kept beeping 3 times and shutting off. Ran a Fan Test and it seemed to fixed the problem (good for cleaning out the dust).
To do a fan test:
1. Power off your PS3 with the switch at the back (no lights!) 2. Hold on to the eject button 3. Power back on 4. Your fan should kick into high gear and you can release the eject button 5. Let it cycle and the indicator light should be blinking red when complete. Power off the PS3 and back on and you should be ready to go.
Seems like a good way to clean out the dust!
